Awarded the PROOFED BARRIER® seal of quality
Selters. Selters. The quality association Qualitätsgemeinschaft geruchsgesperrte Heizöltanks e. V. (QgH), has awarded the quality label “PROOFED BARRIER®” to Schütz GmbH & Co. KgaA for the outstanding efficiency of its SMP barrier method, which is also used in the twin-walled storage system for fuel oil, plastic tank within a tank. Schütz is one of the founding members of the association, which, by introducing this new seal of quality, has aimed to encourage market differentiation into distinct quality segments.
The idea is to provide consumers with greater transparency and certainty when deciding on a new fuel-oil tank system. The PROOFED BARRIER® seal is given to fuel-oil tanks that have been specially treated to protect against leakage or oil odour. The Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging has been commissioned by the quality association to conduct special tests to ensure it is only awarded where appropriate.
The patented SMP (Surface Modified Plastics) barrier from Schütz has already proved itself a million times over in house technology and in the chemical industry, as well as many other fields of application. The inner and outer wall of the container plus all other components are treated with fluorine gas.
A chemical compaction of the polymer molecule chains produces an absolutely even, Teflon-like barrier layer, which prevents the absorption of fuel oil into the HDPE walls for a long time, and thus lastingly prevents the escape of unpleasant odours – an effect which is of particular significance to the modern planning of oil heating systems and twin-walled fueloil tank systems in the vicinity of the living area – for example in the classic utility room. With this innovative method, Schütz has made a significant contribution towards protecting the environment, while at the same time making maximum safety and undisturbed living comfort possible.
