Selters. Schütz GmbH & Co. KGaA from Selters is stepping up its activities in the food industry. The world market leader for IBCs from the Westerwald region of Germany will be presenting its new MX-EV intermediate bulk container at Drinktec in Munich (Hall A2, Stand 216) from 12 to 17 September. Ideal for the transport and storage of liquid and paste like foods as well as food raw materials and additives, the innovative transport packaging was specially created as a substitute for stainless steel containers.
This new packaging is based on the specially developed security layer technology from Schütz – a permanent extrusion blow-moulding process with which IBC inner bottles can be produced in up to six layers. This process includes the plasticisation of different functional materials at once. The result: the overall performance of the container is enhanced and new fields of application are created for transport containers.
The main focuses of development here are on meeting requirements which have become evident in day-to-day business. In the food industry, they are aimed specifically at finding new solutions for IBC applications, with particular attention being paid to the problems posed by permeation as well as to protection from light and UV rays.
The new Schütz Ecobulk MX-EV container therefore boasts a EVOH permeation and oxygen barrier as well as effective protection from the light and UV Rays – optionally available in black or white. The MX-EV-FDA version of this IBC holds certification in compliance with the requirements of the Food and Drug Administration for Food Transport. Until now, stainless steel containers were the only option for this field of application.
The advantages of the new food IBC from Schütz are clear: the EVOH barrier reliably prevents the penetration and escape of oxygen, carbon dioxide and gases through the container wall. Oxygen sensitive foods therefore receive effective protection, which in turn significantly raises their life. This effect is also boosted by the efficient light and UV protection provided by the IBC.
When it comes to property profiles, therefore, the Schütz IBC is an equal match for the conventionally used stainless steel containers. On the other hand, however, it costs much less and eliminates the weaknesses of container cleaning because its inner bottle is replaced after every cycle. This guarantees the absolute product purity of the filling goods transported and stored.
There are practically no limits to this IBC’s uses. The MX-EV-FDA is suitable for the transport and storage of a number of oxygen sensitive food products, ranging from A for apple juice to Z for zabaglione. Yet the IBC is also an excellent means of transport for a number of aromatic compounds, scents and strong smelling filling products used in the food industry.
With its stand at Drinktec, Schütz will not only be underscoring its efficiency and know-how but also its significance as an important innovator and problem-solver for the market – with the focus clearly on customer and industry needs.
