From Producer of Steel Tanks to Global Player
Selters. The name of Schütz today stands for a successful company history. Originally a producer solely of steel storage tanks for fuel oil, the company has now developed into a diversified global player.
Schütz has long since earned itself a name as an expert in the moulding of plastics and a competent metal processor.
The company employs over 2,000 people at 20 international sites and generated an annual turnover of more than 600 million euros in 2004.
The three Schütz business divisions, Industrial Packaging, Energy Systems and Industry Services, have always established trendsetting standards with a host of patents, products and production technologies as well as an uncompromising commitment to quality and environmental protection.
As the undisputed market leader in its specialist areas, the family company based in Selters, Westerwald, today enjoys a reputation for being a major trendsetter and innovator. Thanks to its consistent customer focus, Schütz has also become an indispensable partner and problem solver for both its customers and markets.
The central focus of the company’s activities clearly lies in the Industrial Packaging division with its extensive portfolio of products and services in the field of transport containers (IBC) and plastic and steel drums.
In 1976, Schütz created a completely new packaging norm when it developed the intermediate bulk container (IBC). Soon after its launch, the new transport packaging system became an indispensable market standard.
With its diverse range of Ecobulk products, Schütz is the unrivalled world market leader in this segment.

1958: Company established. Production of steel storage tanks for fuel oil.
1969: Production of PE container systems begins.
1976: Market launch of the ECOBULK (IBC).
1980: Takeover of the DEG drum factory in Leverkusen. Manufacture of steel and fibre drums.
1981: Fanatic (Surfboards).
1985: CORMASTER honeycombs and lightweight constructions for aerospace applications.
1988: Introduction of SMP technology / SCHÜTZ France.

1991: Market launch of the ECOBULK MX.
