Remarkable technology opens up new prospectsSelters / Düsseldorf. With a host of innovative and groundbreaking new developments in plastic drums and transport containers, Schütz GmbH & Co. KGaA from Selters in Germany launches a full-scale offensive at Interpack (Hall 10, Stand D 22 / E 21) with the products of its Industrial Packaging division. Schütz, the world market leader for IBCs, thus sets the course for further strengthening its position within the international competitive landscape of transport packaging.
The evolutionary product launch was made possible thanks especially to a remarkable development achieved by the Schütz Industry Services division: a six-layer blow-moulding unit for the permanent extrusion of plastic containers of between 150 and 1,000 litres in capacity. The technology concept, which is also on show at Interpack, is the first of its kind in the industry and an absolute groundbreaker. Depending on the desired application, different functional materials can be processed simultaneously in a single extrusion process.
With this new Schütz technology, which is known as “security layer technology”, the cross-section of a new product could have the following structure, for example: (from inside to outside) 1. new material, 2. adhesive, 3. EVOH permeation and oxygen barrier, 4. adhesive, 5. regrind and 6. HDPE functional outer layer (conductive or non-chargeable).
This step forward opens up numerous possibilities for Schütz products and applications. Consequently, the Westerwald specialists for industrial packaging are presenting an array of IBC product innovations for a variety of applications at the Düsseldorf trade fair.
These also include the new Ecobulk MX-EX-EV, a transport container specially designed for the changing and varied requirements of transport and storage in hazardous areas. In addition to an EVOH permeation and oxygen barrier, the IBC optionally features an non-chargeable/translucent or conductive/black outer layer and is equally suitable for use in ex-zones 1 and 2 and for numerous liquid to paste-like filling goods with a flashpoint of <61° Celsius.
With its plastic drums, too, Schütz is setting trends with its security layer technology and presenting an entirely new generation of pro- d-ucts in Düsseldorf.
One of the main highlights is the new F1 tight-head drum, for which a brand-new material has been developed in close collaboration with Basell, the leading producer of polyolefins. The result is a plastic drum that raises the bar in every way.
The starting material is the extremely high-density
Hostalen® Histif 5431 Z newly developed by Basell. Using the Schütz security layer technology, this material is extruded to form a product that generally performs far better than conventional drums, especially thanks to its tremendous stress-cracking resistance and optimal processability. Even low-temperature drop tests from three metres, a sensational height for drums, produced excellent results.
At Interpack, Schütz not only underscores its efficiency and know-how with its groundbreaking new developments, but also its significance to the market as an important innovator and solver of problems. In particular, the new portfolio provides opportunities for substituting steel drums with attractive alternatives in plastic. On top of this, the technological advances target the optimisation and economisation of process technology and production processes as well as aiming to cut down on raw materials.
