After relocating to larger premises in 2011, Schütz opened a new plant equipped with state-of-the-art production technology in Kongsvinger. In 2013, the company set its sights on the next service level by setting up a cooperation with the Swedish reconditioner Allemballage, which is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Schütz. Schütz Nordic achieved the next major milestone a year later with the certification of the Norwegian plant in accordance with the FSSC 22000 system certification as part of the introduction of the new Foodcert and Cleancert packaging standards.
Schütz Nordic meets sustainability targets in Scandinavia
Another factor that has contributed significantly to the company’s enduring success is its comprehensive sustainability standards. In Scandinavia in particular, there is a strong awareness of the need for environmental protection, and the Schütz Group’s commitment in this area is acknowledged and appreciated. Schütz takes a holistic approach to sustainability; the specialist for transport packaging systems has also set up its own recycling management system for the Scandinavian market as part of the global Schütz Ticket Service. Schütz’s own collection and reconditioning service offers customers the opportunity to return emptied packaging directly to Schütz and thus make a valuable contribution to environmental protection with minimal effort. Thanks to an infrastructure that has been established for many years and optimised routing, Schütz Nordic guarantees short transport routes and low-CO2 transport for the free collection of used IBCs. The collected packaging is processed to make regranulate in the company's own recycling centre and used for the production of new packaging and pallets.
This is how the products in the Green Layer series, whose IBC inner bottles, jerrycans and plastic drums are made from 30 percent high-quality, natural-coloured recycled material, are manufactured. Schütz uses the recycled pellets exclusively for the middle layer of the inner bottle. New HDPE is used to make the inner and outer layers, meaning that the filling good comes into direct contact with virgin material only. By using recyclate, up to 6.8 kg of CO2 per IBC and up to 3.8 kg per drum are saved – without compromising on quality in any way.
“Twenty-five years of growth, expansion and continuous development have made us what we are today: a strong, established supplier of industrial packaging solutions on the Scandinavian market”, says Erik Platek, Managing Director of Schütz Nordic. “With our holistic approach to sustainability and our commitment to ensuring the broadest and most cost-efficient provision of ecological packaging, Schütz Nordic is excellently positioned for the future.”
